Scripture John 10:1-18

Devotion
Life is not easy: Anyone who promises that it is the thief or bandit that Jesus is speaking of in this passage. TV is full of bandits and thieves – “I lost 50 lbs on the ab-i-sizer”, “I made $100,000 in real estate in 10 days”, “ I got 6-pack abs by drinking Bob’s Magic Elixer.” “Send me your donation and your place in heaven is reserved”. Say we follow these bandits or hired hands, when the promise doesn’t come through will they still be there for us? Jesus doesn’t offer us the quick, easy fix. He does offer to love us and be there for us forever. He doesn’t promise that life is easy or that we won’t have problems that we don’t deserve. He does promise to help us through and show us why he chose to use us in this manner. He is the shepherd who will stay with us and fight off the wolves. If you are an outside sheep he will welcome you and protect you just the same.

Prayer:
Father, help us to remember when we have times of trouble, sickness, despair, sorrow or days when we feel a little off, we will make it as long as we let our Shepherd protect us. We will have these and we will make it through. Please help the sheep outside the fold know this also.
