Scripture
John 11:1-27

Devotion
When Jesus was told that Lazarus was very sick and dying, he opted to stay where he was for several more days.

When he told his disciples that they should return to Judea, the disciples were concerned about his safety. Jesus explained they would be safe if traveling in daylight as they could see, but if traveling at night, they could come into harm, as they could not see what was going on as they traveled.

Jesus told the disciples that Lazarus had fallen to sleep, they did not understand that he had died. Jesus told them he was glad he was not there when Lazarus died, Now the disciples would believe.

Many travelers came to visit Mary and Martha (Sisters of Lazarus) after he had died. When Martha heard Jesus was coming , she went to meet him, Mary stayed behind. Jesus told Martha that Lazarus would arise again, Martha thought he was talking about the dead rising on the final day, but Jesus says I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live -even if he dies-- Everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.

Prayer
Almighty God, through Jesus Christ you overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life. Grant that we, who by the renewing of your Spirit may arise from the death of sin to the life of righteousness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
