Scripture
John 8: 21-32

Devotion
Truth. Trust. Trustworthy. These words have an all or nothing sort of meaning. Either you tell the truth or you don’t. Either you trust someone or you don’t. Either you are trustworthy or you’re not. But I don’t think it has to be an either/or. Couldn’t it be sometimes/maybe? I trust my children to drive when they reach the age of 16, but maybe they’ll have an accident. I think I’m a trustworthy person, but I’m sure I’ve sometimes let people down who expected something different from me. Many people who swear they are telling the truth are merely telling their version of the truth…someone else’s truth may be different. I think verse 32 is more about faith than trust. We all have different experiences with “truth”. When we experience truth, it will make us feel free, but it’s really faith that frees us! Sam Keen says, “Faith is dancing in the dark.” We may not know what’s ahead of us, but we dance anyway! Having faith in God bestows a trust that will set us free!

Prayer
All knowing Truth, let our yes’ be yes and our no’s be no. Amen.
