Scripture
John 8: 12-20
Devotion
Are any of us as sure of where we are going as Jesus is, in today's scripture? What confidence! The great part is we allCAN be. If we have faith in the Father, He will lead us in the ways we should go and will give us the confidence to know where we will end up. We too are children of God and never will we have to stand alone against the world.
This is but another of the promises to us from God. Do, walk toward the "light of the world" and be free forever.
Prayer
Glorious, Heavenly Father, we give you thanks and praise for your promises to be with us in all circumstances. We ask that you strengthen our faith each day. We want to be sure of where we come from and where we are going. Thank you Jesus, for it is your name that we pray. Amen.

Scripture
John 7: 37-52
Devotion
On the last and greatest day of the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice (if anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink). Who ever believes in me streams of water will flow within him. Jesus is promising to give the Holy Spirit to all who believe, basically telling all He was the Messiah, and when you accept the Holy Spirit—Jesus will bring you eternal life, the two go together. The crowd further questioned Jesus—some were hostile, others were puzzled, while some believed. Had all of them looked more carefully they would not have jumped to the wrong conclusions. When you search for Gods truth, make sure you look carefully and thoughtfully at the Bible, with an open heart and mind. On that day in Jerusalem the Temple Priests and Pharisees wanted the guards to bring Jesus in, but the guards said no one ever spoke the way this man does. They too were becoming believers. It is Gods role to judge others, not ours. Our role as a believer is to show passion and forgiveness. If God seems far away, persist in your search for Him. Remember, Jesus promised (seek and you will find).
Prayer
Breathe on us Holy Spirit that in our darkness we will find Gods Light!!!! Amen.

Scripture John 7: 14-36
Devotion
Jesus was saying: These are not my words but those who sent me. But most did not pay attention. He did one miracle and he said stop making judgments by what you see, but listen to the meanings of the words. Any healing was not his but God’s. He was telling the people, everyone has the choice to believe.
We have miracles happening around us all the time. We need to realize these are God’s doing. Do I understand how? No! But I understand love, faithfulness, truth, forgiveness through God’s creation of family, friends, believers, and yes even pets.
We are all to be servants of God as helpers, hands, voices, telling of God’s truth. We need to follow God to gain eternity.
Prayer
Our Father, Help us to listen and follow you. Amen.

Scripture
Mark 5: 1-20
Devotion
The book of Mark stresses facts and actions instead of themes or topics. Some biblical scholars believe that it is the most exciting account of the life of Christ among the gospels. Mark tells in detail stories of Christ’s ministry and miracles. If we stop to think about it, Jesus is performing miracles in our lives each and every day. We need to do as the demon-possessed man was asked to do. “Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you”. Jesus asks us to share His story to all the world.
Prayer
Almighty Father, help us to share the stories of Jesus’ healing miracles and His loving mercy to all the world. Let us tell of how He died for our sins so that we may live. Amen.

Scripture
John 7:1-13
Devotion
Jesus’ followers wanted him to perform more miracles, to prove to the world how great he was. There were those that believed Jesus was a wonderful man, while others believed he was duping the public. Yet, when the Jewish leaders tried to find Jesus, it appeared as though many were afraid of these Jewish leaders. They lacked the courage to speak out for Jesus.
This still occurs today, especially in the realm of politics and professional sports. It is hard to defend public figures when many others criticize their actions. Everybody loves a winner!
Many of us do believe in Jesus. We come to church, serve on committees, and do what we can to support those in our church family. Yet it is so often difficult to speak out publicly about our love for Jesus.
Prayer
May God grant us the courage we need to speak up.!

John 5: 30-47
Devotion
In this passage, Jesus is talking to the Jewish people trying to convince them he is the Messiah. The Jewish people were looking for a "celebrity" to save them from Roman rule, but here was Jesus, a common man. God's word and message come in all different forms. We should not let any preconceived notions interfere with us receiving God's message and guidance.
Prayer
God, You are great indeed! When we looked for someone 'special' to save us, you come to us as a man like ourselves. Help us to receive your word and message even though it has not been what we expected - in Jesus name. Amen.

Scripture
John 5: 19-29
Devotion
This scripture is pretty clear. God has made Christ his equal.
Jesus gives all the credit to his father. "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do: for whatever he does, the Son also does in like manner." v. 19.
Jesus promises eternal life to all who believe in him. He also clearly states that there will be a time of judgment for believers and non-believers; and because Christ is God's equal, they will both be doing the judging.
As believers, we will be rewarded for the work we have done for Christ. Non-believers will be condemned.
Prayer
Father of us all, One in Jesus Christ. Help us to trust in you. We place ourselves in your hands - God of justice and grace. Amen.

Scripture
John 5: 1-18
Devotion
This is the story of the man at the pool of Bethesda. In many ways it is a symbolic story as well as a literal one. It has the 'resurrection story" in its content. We read of a man rising up and becoming whole who was dead in the eyes of the world around him. it shows how not only do physical barriers and construction barriers limit or deny people access to wholeness and health, but also, that there are social and religious barriers as well. it clearly shows how God's love overcomes each of those barriers. it challenges us to remember constantly that healing isn't only an issue of physical health, but also one of being able to fully participate in church and in society.
Jesus selected this man from a crowd of many. He was alone, crippled and shunned to a mat among the surging and excited crowd asking and wanting to be healed. No one was carrying him; no one was supporting him. Jesus selects him out of this multitude and asks him if he wants healing. The old man explains how he has been limited not only by the pools construction, but also by the teaming crowd and lack of friends to assist him. Jesus offers him immediate healing, completely avoiding the pool.
This reading indicates Jesus and God's ability to see our needs, even if others cannot. It shows God's desire to seek out and touch even those who society ignores or puts in the corner. No matter how alone, how friendless, how lost we might feel, God is for us. This healing isn't a simple case of restoring physical mobility. It is also a story of reintegrating a life back into the world.
May it be so with us...that we know of God's ability to restore us at all levels. And may we certainly carry the mission forward and help restore all those needing God's grace, not just the obvious ones. We can be a healing pool, a living source of God's greatness, mercy, and grace.
Prayer
Lord, restore us to what you would have us be. Amen.

Scripture
John 4: 43-54
Devotion
These verses show Jesus coming from Judea to Galilee. He had changed the water into wine and as a second sign (miracle) healed an official's young son at the begging of the official who believed. THEN he saw. When Jesus said, "Go back home. Your son is healed!" the official obeyed and returned home, thus demonstrating his faith that he would find his son healed.
When you pray about a need or problem, LIVE as though you believe Jesus can do what he says. We can never put so much space between Christ and ourselves that he can no longer help us. Do you believe? Let us step out in faith and live each day as though we, too, BELIEVE!!!
Prayer
Lord, we believe you will do what you say. Help us to live as we believe. Amen.

Scripture
John 4: 27-42
Devotion
As the disciples returned they were surprised to see Jesus speaking to a woman at the well. She had come alone. He reminded her she was not to speak to a strange man when her husband was not along. He knew she had five husbands and living with another so she was rejected by the women of the community.
When the woman linked His message of hope to the Messiah, Jesus said, I am the “Promised One”.
Finally the woman left her water jar and immediately rushed back to tell the people her experience and invited them to come to see this man. They finally decided to go back. Jesus stayed two more days and he led many, many others to believe.
“We did not believe you, but now we have heard for ourselves and know this man is 'Savior of the World,” said the Samaritans.
When Jesus went back to Galilee, he was asked by a royal officer to heal his sick son. Jesus promised and when the officer found his son, he was well again. Jesus kept His Promise.
Isn't it amazing that Jesus does not reject sinners but seeks them. He is not looking for new ways to judge us. “God is Love” and fills us with joy as I realize “God loves me!”
Prayer
Jesus loves me still today,
walking with me on my way,
wanting as a friend to give
light and love to all who live.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Scripture Mark 3: 31-4: 9
Devotion A large crowd was gathered to hear Jesus, He made a point that this was God’s Family and excluded no one. Meaning, (besides his mother and brothers) He cared for all who loved Him. In our computerized impersonal world warm relationships among Gods Family take on major importance. The Church can give loving care that people find nowhere else. Jesus taught people by telling Parables (short stories using familiar scenes to explain spiritual truth in which there is usually one main point). Jesus talked about a farmer spreading seed by hand from a bag, some falling by the wayside, some among the rocks and thorns, others carried off by the wind, and luckily enough would fall on good ground to ensure a harvest. Could this mean that not all of our days on earth would be plentiful? We know that this is God’s World and we have to prepare ourselves for the good and the bad. This is where we come in as believers in Jesus, we need to read the Bible in earnest and see his mighty works of miracles, His forgiveness that brings healing, wholeness and changes our lives for us who trust Him.
Prayer Loving God: May my words today reflect Christ’s Spirit, which brings Love, Joy, Compassion and Sympathy!! Amen.

John 4: 1-26
Devotion
This is another familiar story; The Woman at the Well. When we hear these stories we often think that they have nothing new to teach us. Perhaps we need a refresher course or reminder that we can always learn or remember something from them.
We know that Jesus and the woman were from different groups who generally didn’t associate with one another. Do we often pass up the chance to learn from someone who has a different background or opinion? In this story the woman listens to what Jesus has to tell her and shares the Good News with others. Perhaps if we would do the same we would find “the living water” that Jesus promises.
Prayer
Dear Lord, help us to be open to new ideas and people. Help us to really listen so that we can learn and find the “living water.” Amen.

John 3: 22-36
Devotion
In these verses, John is baptizing people at the same time and near the same place that Jesus is baptizing. John is approached by some who question whether this upsets him because now the people are going to Jesus instead of him and doesn’t that make him feel less important.
John responds by explaining that just as a best man or a groomsman is happy for the groom on his day, he is happy for Jesus because all the works John is doing are for the glory of God, just as everything Jesus does is for the glory of God.
As we go about our daily lives, we should also do good works. However, sometimes when we perform good deeds, we are quick to take the credit and pat ourselves on the back, impressed with what we have done. When what we should be doing, is glorifying God and instead of taking the credit for ourselves, we should give that back to God who works through us.
Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven…………………..Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

John 3: 16-21
Devotion
We get the part about God "giving His only Son" for us - or do we? God gave...God sacrificed his Son, God's self, for our sins. Yet have you ever thought the lesson is perhaps not about sacrifice at all - nor about love. After all a parent's love is a given, right?
For me the 'aha' moment is in verse 17 and the why of His sending...not to condemn but to save the world. Being very much part of that world, it is us, isn't it that is saved rather than condemned? We are guilty--that is our conviction--and yet we are saved!
How wonderful is that.
Prayer
Loving God, I am so thankful that when I should be condemned, I am loved. Thank you. Make me worthy of the love you have for me. Amen.

Scripture
John 1: 29-34
Devotion
This Gospel reading tells about the moment when John the Baptist proclaimed that Jesus, the sin-bearer, had finally arrived.
What did this declaration mean? One thing it meant was that Jesus was the one who John the Baptist had pointed to all along: "...the reason why I came baptizing with water," says John, "was that he might be made known to Israel." And it also meant that this one is the Holy Spirit, he is the Son of GOD, the Messiah!
What a relief this must have been for the John the Baptist when Jesus finally appeared. This meant John's work was nearly completed. But what a burden Jesus must have felt as his mission came upon his shoulders in the form of a light-weight dove. I wonder if Jesus really believed that the dove symbolized peace. We know that Jesus would know little peace in his short life. He must have felt sad to realize that his sacrifices would be appreciated by so few...that many cared little or hated him for it.
We spend most of our lives working, helping, and caring for those who may not appreciate our actions, such as our children, family, or co-workers. These people may not fully understand our sacrifices until much later, for example, when our children become parents themselves. Our love for them makes it all worthwhile...even if we have to be patient and wait for the appreciation to grow.
Prayer
Lord, help us to grow in your ways. Amen.

Scripture
John 2: 23-3:15
Devotion
Being “born again” is as mysterious to me as it was to Nicodemus. How can one do this and how do you know if it has happened to you?
Jesus chided Nicodemus by saying that if you don’t even believe me when I tell you about things that happen here on earth, how can you possibly believe me if I tell you what is going on in heaven? Jesus said, “Unless you are born again, you ‘can’t get into the Kingdom of God.”
I’ve heard a story about Tony Blair, former prime minister of England. His father was gravely ill. When Tony told his teacher about it, his teacher suggested that they get down on their knees and pray. “But,” whispered Tony, “I’m afraid my father doesn’t believe in God. “That’s alright,” said his teacher, “because God believes in him.”
Maybe that’s it. Leave it up to God. If He saw to it that we were born, maybe He’ll see to it that we are born again! (or maybe not!)
Prayer
Eternal God, by the birth of Jesus Christ you gave yourself to the world. Grant that, being born in our hearts, he may save us from all our sins, and restore within us the image and likeness of our Creator, to whom be everlasting praise and glory, world without end. Amen.

Amen.

Scripture
John 2: 13-22
Devotion
Jesus worshipped God in the temple like we worship God in our church. When he went to the temple, he saw things he didn't like, There were men selling animals and charging to trade money right inside the temple grounds. He felt the temple was a place of worship, not a marketplace for men to make money. It was a holy place for meeting and serving God, not a place for selling and trading. This made him angry so he drove away the animals, turned over tables, and emptied the money on the ground and forced the merchants out.
The Jews who witnessed this asked Jesus for a sign to confirm that he was right. He responded with "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews and even his disciples didn't understand his meaning. They took, it literally by thinking there's no way he can destroy this temple and then rebuild it in three days. Later, after his death and resurrection, his disciples understood what he meant. He was referring to his body as the temple, knowing that after he was destroyed, he would rise again in three days.
Do you ever take things too literally? Have you ever tried to dig deeper different understanding? Do you ever try to see things through the perspective of another? Is it possible that your understanding of a situation could be different than what was intended? Sometimes we have to wait and be patient before we can fully understand the intentions of others.
Prayer
Lord, help us be patient and understanding of others. Amen.

Scripture
John 2:1-12
Devotion
Embarrasing moments: Years ago I was one of the hostesses for a traveling dinner. My contribution was a family favorite pudding cake and I served it in the baking dish. The first person to serve himself took a huge scoop and I realized I hadn't prepared any where near enough. I would have been so blessed if someone had taken some of the empty bowls and filled them with Lemon Pudding cake. AND with a far superior dessert than the original.
Jesus' very first miracle was to fill the jars with superior wine. This was miraculous because even today's advanced scientific thinking cannot explain how that could have happened. Research tells us that these jars were not the kind for food and drink, rather they were sacred jars used to fill emersion pools for ritual cleansing and baptismal ceremonies. Therefore, we are told, Jesus' use of these in this way defiled them so they couldn't be used again for ritual ever again. This indicates that the direct care for a friend is more important than a ritual to show that one cares.
Prayer
Dear Lord, take our acts of love and turn them into miracles. Amen.

Time and place for everything. Feast at a ceremony, do not suppress the celebration.
Fast at a different time. When you have feasted to much or when sacrifice is in order.
Prayer
Thank you Lord for celebrations! May we learn to take life as it comes. Celebrating all of the experiences and fasting when necessary. Amen.

Scripture John 1: 43-51
Devotion People are wanting to know what God is really like when all they have to do is look at Jesus. If they want to know what Jesus is like, then all we need to do is look at his followers. We need to listen to God and let him lead us on the right path. Can others see Christ in you?
Prayer Dear God, we want to be followers of You even though sometimes it is hard to do. Give us strength and guidance to follow you on the right path. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Scripture
John 1: 35-4
Devotion
This is one of the familiar readings about Jesus calling his disciples. John the Baptist introduces two of his followers to Jesus who then go with Jesus to see where he is staying. One of them, Andrew brought his brother, Simon to Jesus and Jesus renames him Peter.
We are reminded again about the role of all of us to follow and to bring others to Christ. It is harder for some of us than others to take that role. We need to be reminded again and again to search for those opportunities and to be the kind of disciples and witnesses that we should be.
Prayer
Dear Lord, help us to remember to actively search for ways to witness and serve. Amen

Scripture Luke 18:9-14
The Pharisee looked and acted like perfection, but what was in his heart? Pride, conceit, and contempt for others. God knew what was in his heart, just as he knows what is in yours and mine. We are all sinners who need His help and mercy. I know that I have looked down on someone who was not living up to my standards. I have also been quite proud of myself and arrogant. These are traits that I try to curb, and with Gods help I will succeed.
A work in progress.
Prayer Dear Lord, Thank you for your patience with us. Amen.
