Scripture
John 2:1-12
Devotion
Embarrasing moments: Years ago I was one of the hostesses for a traveling dinner. My contribution was a family favorite pudding cake and I served it in the baking dish. The first person to serve himself took a huge scoop and I realized I hadn't prepared any where near enough. I would have been so blessed if someone had taken some of the empty bowls and filled them with Lemon Pudding cake. AND with a far superior dessert than the original.
Jesus' very first miracle was to fill the jars with superior wine. This was miraculous because even today's advanced scientific thinking cannot explain how that could have happened. Research tells us that these jars were not the kind for food and drink, rather they were sacred jars used to fill emersion pools for ritual cleansing and baptismal ceremonies. Therefore, we are told, Jesus' use of these in this way defiled them so they couldn't be used again for ritual ever again. This indicates that the direct care for a friend is more important than a ritual to show that one cares.
Prayer
Dear Lord, take our acts of love and turn them into miracles. Amen.
