Scripture
John 2: 13-22

Devotion
Jesus worshipped God in the temple like we worship God in our church. When he went to the temple, he saw things he didn't like, There were men selling animals and charging to trade money right inside the temple grounds. He felt the temple was a place of worship, not a marketplace for men to make money. It was a holy place for meeting and serving God, not a place for selling and trading. This made him angry so he drove away the animals, turned over tables, and emptied the money on the ground and forced the merchants out.
The Jews who witnessed this asked Jesus for a sign to confirm that he was right. He responded with "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The Jews and even his disciples didn't understand his meaning. They took, it literally by thinking there's no way he can destroy this temple and then rebuild it in three days. Later, after his death and resurrection, his disciples understood what he meant. He was referring to his body as the temple, knowing that after he was destroyed, he would rise again in three days.
Do you ever take things too literally? Have you ever tried to dig deeper different understanding? Do you ever try to see things through the perspective of another? Is it possible that your understanding of a situation could be different than what was intended? Sometimes we have to wait and be patient before we can fully understand the intentions of others.

Prayer
Lord, help us be patient and understanding of others. Amen.
