John 8: 33-47
Devotion
In these verses, Jesus tells the Jewish community that the truth would make them free. I can almost see their bewildered faces as they replied that they had never been slaves. Jesus then reminded them that any and all sinners were slaves to sin. I can imagine what a shock that was to them. I would like to have heard their conversations after His statement. Did they really understand what he meant? Maybe some did, maybe not. The rest of the scripture tells how they challenge Jesus further. When Jesus tells them if they continue in His word they will be his disciples. They know the truth will set them free. Again I can almost see the confusion on their faces. How many times do we not fully understand what God wants us to know.
Prayer
Dear God, please help us to listen and understand what you want us to know.
