John 6: 52-59
Devotion
Jesus said, "unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you."
That's pretty heavy stuff--even more so, if you take it literally. But Jesus wasn't talking about eating human flesh and drinking human blood. He, I think, was talking about our becoming 'his flesh' and 'his blood.'
We can only do that by thoroughly chewing and ingesting his teachings, digesting them completely and incorporating them wholly into our selves. Just as the food we eat and the liquid we drink ends up becoming molecules of our own body, so too can Jesus, through his example, become us. This is the only way.
No 'real' life, unless through his 'body' and 'his' blood.
Prayer
God, help us. May we become one with Christ throughout eternity. Amen.
